Our Approach to Counseling

At Smith Psychotherapy Solutions, Robert Smith is a clinical social worker who takes a collaborative approach when treating clients. He listens to his clients, asks what they want to change, and works to validate their feelings.

My goal is to help our clients move away from the pain they are experiencing toward a place of acceptance and healing. Through a combination of self-respect and self-care, they are given the tools they need to live their lives to the fullest extent.

Counseling Services include:

Clients from All Walks of Life

Since we treat clients of across ages and life experience, including adults ages 21-80, families, heterosexual and same-sex couples, each therapy session is individualized and built on careful, respectful, and thoughtful measures to help move through the therapy process. We address current life problems as well as problems that have happened in the past. It is important to note that we carefully address issues from the past in a present context to be sure that we do not re-trigger past trauma.

Finding the Right Approach to Therapy

Robert takes a collaborative approach when treating clients. Rather than dictating a treatment plan to you, he'll work as a team to outline and agree upon the goals we want to achieve together. Then, we'll build a roadmap of therapeutic approaches that you're comfortable with in order to meet those goals, including:

  • Brief or Long-term Therapy
  • Gestalt Therapy
  • Pain Management Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Solution Oriented Therapy
  • Clinical Hypnotherapy and Guided Imagery
  • Progressive Relaxation Therapy and Stress Management
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy
