Work with Trauma

Trauma and Trauma Work

Sexual abuse, rape, other violent crimes, accidents, physical abuse, domestic violence, emotional abuse, and mental abuse, combat, to name a few, can all cause trauma. People who have experienced these life events, often avoid talking about them for many reasons, which may include having received threats from the perpetrator, fear of remembering and facing what happened to them, shame about the events, guilt and other beliefs (even if unfounded) that they may have brought on the events, and that it can deeply hurt to review some or all of what happened.

Psychological Trauma and Abuse

In trauma work, the Clinical Social Work Therapist or Clinical Psychologist and client collaborate on goals and approaches to addressing the issues at hand. Therapy is individualized, and each session is built on careful, respectful, and thoughtful measures to help move through the therapy process. We listen to our clients and ask what they want to change. We validate their feelings and experiences. We gently help them move from being pained to finding a balance of having self-respect, providing self-care, and living their lives to the fullest in the present.
