Transforming Challenges Into Solutions

Our Approach to Counseling

At Smith Psychotherapy Associates, our clinical social workers and psychologists take a collaborative approach when treating patients. Rather than dictating a treatment plan to you, we’ll work as a team to outline and agree upon the goals we want to achieve together. Then, we’ll build a roadmap of therapeutic approaches that you’re comfortable with in order to meet those goals. This approach to therapy ensures that our patients are at ease when speaking with us and confident in their treatment plan.

Therapy is individualized, and each session is built on careful, respectful, and thoughtful measures to help move through the therapy process. We address current life problems as well as problems that have happened in the past. It is important to note that we carefully address issues from the past in a present context to be sure that we do not re-trigger past trauma.

We listen to our clients and ask what they want to change. We validate their feelings and experiences. We gently help them move from being pained to finding a balance of having self-respect, providing self-care and living their lives to the fullest extent.

To make certain that you are getting the most out of your sessions with us, we’ll revisit your goals on a regular basis and adjust our techniques as your sessions evolve. This approach to counseling has helped our patients feel safe and comfortable with the process, which is what our practice strives to do. You can read more about our client testimonials here.
